In the parched landscapes of rural Kitui County, water is not a luxury—it is survival itself. Here, where the earth cracks and vegetation withers under relentless sun, every drop carries the weight of life's most fundamental promise.
The rainy season, a brief and fragile window of hope, stretches barely a month between March and May. These fleeting weeks of precipitation are the county's sole reprieve, a mercy that vanishes as quickly as it arrives. In the between months, communities are left to navigate a harsh reality where water becomes a daily battle of endurance and strategy.
Villagers—often women and children—shoulder the most demanding burden. They trek miles under scorching heat, carrying jerry cans and hope, navigating treacherous terrain to secure water that is neither consistently clean nor abundant. State infrastructure is often chronically underfunded and unreliable. Boreholes run dry, communal water points become seasonal mirages, and the landscape tells a story of persistent scarcity.
This is not merely an inconvenience. It is a systemic challenge that disrupts education, constrains agricultural potential, and perpetuates cycles of vulnerability. Each journey for water represents lost hours that could be spent in school, tending crops, or building community infrastructure.
In Kitui County, water is more than a resource. It is the difference between mere survival and the potential for genuine community progress.
Today, we're excited to share the incredible story of how persistence, community collaboration, and unwavering commitment have brought us closer to providing sustainable water access for Katundu Village, Muthanga Tumua Village, and Masimba High School.
The Challenge
In regions where water scarcity is a daily reality, every meter drilled represents hope. Our mission was clear: to drill a well that would serve multiple communities, providing clean, accessible water for drinking, agriculture, and school operations. Our founder Dennis Nguutu set out with a vision to provide a stable water source to these communities in the early months of 2024.
Jill Steiner's extraordinary vision transformed our mission from possibility to reality. Her generosity didn't just fund a well—it brought hope, water, and opportunity to communities long parched by scarcity. Our deepest gratitude extends beyond thanks to true partnership.
The Drilling Journey
Initial Challenges
Our first attempt began with high hopes and determination. At 180 meters, our initial drilling site proved dry—a moment that could have discouraged many, but not us. Instead, we saw this as an opportunity to adapt and learn.

Shifting Strategies
Undeterred by the first setback, our team carefully assessed the terrain and transitioned to a slightly different location. This decision would prove pivotal in our water-finding mission.
Success Emerges
On day 3 of our renewed efforts, we struck water. By the end of day 4, we had successfully drilled to our final ground water source at 145 meters.
What This Means for the Community
This well represents more than just a water source. It's a lifeline that will:
- Provide clean drinking water for Katundu Village residents.
- Support agricultural efforts in Muthanga Tumma Village.
- Enable Masimba High School to maintain better hygiene and potentially expand educational programs.
Next Steps: Pump System Installation
While we've successfully located our water source, our journey isn't complete. We are currently seeking funding to install the pump system that will bring this water to the surface and into the hands of those who need it most.
How You Can Help
Your support can transform lives. By contributing to our pump system fund, you're not just donating money—you're providing hope, health, and opportunity.
Acknowledgements
We extend our deepest gratitude to our drilling team, local community leaders, Jill Steiner for her generous support, and all supporters who believe in our mission of bringing water to those who need it most.
Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project.
